John Brien Custom Woodworking

Artisan Craftsmanship

Details Only from Hand tools

Details only from hand tools

Decades ago there was only one way to get furniture and details for your home, find a local craftsman. With flat packing and big business this has changed by creating the off-the-shelf and disposable designs. An era of pride and even the craftsmen seem to have been forgotten. This is something I work very hard to prove wrong. Custom work in homes makes everything personal, be it a built-in widow seat, a front entry door, or that perfect table for your den, your home becomes a home with the warmth and uniqueness of your personal style and the local artisan’s touch. Utilizing local industry I am able to create custom pieces for your home that can add value and be handed down through the generations. One-off or reproduction, beautiful designs, locally and responsibly harvested with the warmth from one of our oldest and most renewable natural resource.

John’s shop is located in Economy, Pennsylvania just about 25 miles north-west of Pittsburgh. An area rich in history, art, and craftsmanship and still true to it’s roots is where I call home. Here I am able to utilize other local craftsmen to aid in the complete execution of your commission, from custom ironwork to hand blown glass. I have no limit and pride myself on the versatility of my work and execution of my designs. Read a little more about John and how John got here.

The Green Touch

With the trend of green design being a basis of marketing from so many companies lately, design has become stark and cold. Modern, green design doesn’t have to be such. Local craftsmen are still around and there is still a strong pride in these trades, this is the side of green the big companies don’t tell you. It’s not all about recycling and energy, it’s about how that energy and resource is used.

John’s business and workmanship is built around sustainability or green design as the advertisers have begun to call it. My work is built around three major beliefs:

  • Buy from local suppliers and use local resources.
  • Work local and have your clients close.
  • Health and Longevity

This is green and sustainable by anyones definition of the word. Read more about John’s approach to custom woodworking.
